Monica Maggioni is an Italian journalist.
Since 2015 she has been President of RAI – the Italian national public television – and Vice president of EBU – the European Broadcasting Union.
She has been a war correspondent, editor and editor-in-chief for the main news outlets in RAI. She anchored TG1, the most important Italian evening news program, the RAI1 morning show and many other tv programs.
She started her career as a crisis correspondent in 1996 for Tv7, the weekly magazine of RAI TG1.
Since 2000 she has extensively covered the Middle East: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. During the second Gulf War she was the only Italian journalist embedded with the USA ground forces in Iraq.
In 2008 she moved to the USA as a special correspondent and she covered the presidential campaign that lead to the election of Barack Obama.
In 2010 and 2011 she produced two documentaries, both premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
In 2013 she was appointed editor-in-chief of the all-news channel Rainews24.
She has written several books on geopolitics and media.
She is an active member of the Administrative Board of ISPI (Institute for the Study of International Politics), of the Italian Encyclopedia Institute Treccani, and of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
