President of the Board of Trustees of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since May 2017, Isabel Mota is Graduated in Finance from the University of Lisbon (1973). She is a non-executive member of the board of Santander-Totta Bank (since July 2015) and member of the Council of Portuguese Honorific Orders (Since 2011).
A member of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2017, she is also Chairman of the Partex Oil and Gas (Holdings) Corporation Supervisory Committee and of the Board of Directors of Maison du Portugal in Paris.
She was Assistant Lecturer at the Higher Institute of Economics (1973-75) before becoming Deputy Director of the Office of the External Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Finance (1978-86) and Counsellor to the Permanent Representative of Portugal to Brussels (1986).
In the political field, Isabel Mota has served as Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development in the 11th and 12th Constitutional Governments, with responsibility for the negotiations with the European Union over Structural and Cohesion Funds for Portugal (1987-95).
She serves on the Juries to the Jacques Delors Award, the COTEC-BPI Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award. Until 2014, she also served as Jury for the Career Award of the Catholic University of Lisbon.
She’s a member of the Council of Portuguese Honorary Orders, since 2011. From 2010 until 2016, Isabel Mota was adviser to the Economic and Social Council – Portugal is a member of the Specialist Committee of the Ministry of Regional Development (2013).
Isabel Mota was distinguished with the award “Dona Antónia Ferreira” and recipient of the Distinguished Service “Gold” Medal from the Ministry of Health. She has also been awarded the levels of Grand Office and Grand Cross in the Order of Infante D. Henrique.
